National Framework on Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion

It is a continuous and long term programme to bring all stakeholders in one platform for building a consensus for demystifying peace, defining peace within Pakistan, defining roles and responsibilities and collaboration and partnership of civil society organizations, government, state and international stakeholders.

At first level 5 workshops with participants from Balochistan, Punjab, Sindh, GB and AJK were conducted to develop a national framework on women and peace in collaboration with Insan Foundation and ICDI. After the consultations Shirakat team felt that shared understanding of the term needed to be arrived at; the drivers and barrier of peace within Pakistan had to be identified and strategies frameworks developed around that. The process was hence reflected upon, reviewed closely and a new strategy of developing the framework was adopted.

At second level Shirakat has organized series of consultations in Islamabad Capital Territory, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa province. The key objectives of these consultations are to:

  1. Demystify the concepts of peace and peace building
  2. Define the building blocks of peace in the context of Pakistan
  3. Reach a consensus on the role of civil society, the government and international stakeholders in participation, and promotion of a peaceful environment in Pakistan
  4. Recommend a future course of action
